One of Russia’s major military vehicle manufacturers, UAZ, has admitted that economic sanctions are affecting the quality of its vehicles used on the front lines in Ukraine. This unusual acknowledgment came from Sollers, the parent company of UAZ.
Representatives from Sollers highlighted that the plant is working to shift to alternative suppliers and enhance its production capabilities, according to Gazeta.ru. “In 2022, due to sanctions, UAZ faced significant challenges as it lost its main suppliers,” the company reported.
Military correspondent Dmitry Steshin noted that the performance of UAZ vehicles at the front is lacking. He pointed out that extensive modifications are often necessary before the vehicles can be deployed, citing a case where a UAZ Patriot had to be fully disassembled and reassembled to address defects, but issues with the rear axle persisted.
The UAZ Patriot Pickup, manufactured by the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant, is recognized for its durability and adaptability in tough terrains. With impressive off-road capabilities, it can handle uneven, muddy roads, forest trails, sand dunes, and even areas lacking roads.
