In a press release the Indian Defense Ministry said, a new missile production centre in the state of Lucknow will produce 80 to 100 Brahmos missiles per year.

“The new Brahmos Manufacturing Center will be ready within two or three years and will produce 80-100 new-generation Brahmos missiles annually. It will be a modern center equipped with cutting-edge technologies,”

The new Brahmos Manufacturing facility will occupy an area of more than 80 hectares.

Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh laid the foundation stone of the Brahmos missiles production unit in Lucknow.

The central government will play a key role in the strengthening the country’s perimeter security and this factory will play a significant role towards this end.

“Brahmos has empowered the Armed Forces and raised India’s military stature at the international level,” said Singh. “The Brahmos system not only reflects the technical cooperation between India and Russia, but also the long-standing cultural, political and diplomatic ties”.

Brahmos is a supersonic cruise missile produced by an Indo-Russian joint venture Brahmos Aerospace.

The missile was designed by the Indian Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) along with Russia’s Mashinostroeniya Enterprise, a subsidiary of the Tactical Missiles Corporation, KTRV.

Brahmos was first test launched in 2001.

All three arms of the Indian Armed Forces, including the Indian Air Force, Navy and Ground Forces are armed with various editions of the Brahmos missile.
